We’ve all been hoping for the best in terms of continuing choir rehearsals and being able to put on another amazing silent film night concert. The songs have been sounding so good and I know how much people were looking forward to it. Unfortunately though, recent events have overtaken us and we’ve agreed that we need to postpone our concert on the 28th of March and suspend choir rehearsals for the time-being.
If you’ve bought tickets, someone will be in touch asap. Music-making is so important at times like this and it’s really sad that we’ve had to take this decision. But we hope that you understand.
The concert is definitely postponed though rather than cancelled. There’s no escape from the music of the 1920’s I’m afraid! And in the meantime, we’re going to have a good think about how we can keep in touch musically – you may well be getting an invite to a virtual singalong / Emailed musical theory homework or be asked to log into the website for something – you know the password with a capital ‘B’..!
Very Best Wishes
As part of our ‘Carols ’round Camberwell’ event in December, we raised a magnificent £263.72 for the charity ‘Shine’.
Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. Shine enables people to get the best out of life.
Shine is a fantastic charity and you can find out more about their work what they do here. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a great night of carolling!
…And – we’re back! Rehearsals start again on Tuesday 7th January.
Spring term promises to be an exciting one, especially since it’s the 20’s again… Have a peek at the calendar page to find out a tiny bit more about our plans for this term…!
Thanks for a fantastic end to the year everyone! After our successful ‘Cabaret in the Crypt’ night, our last gig of the year was a carol-singing pub crawl. Carols ’round Camberwell began at the gnarled tree in Camberwell Churchyard and it was a bit dark and damp to start with…
…but we soon made our way to the pubs of Camberwell, singing and raising money for charity Shine. Thanks to everyone who donated and supported us. Until next year!
November saw a return for our ‘cabaret in the crypt night’ which seems to have taken on a status as legendary as our ‘cheese and wine’ rehearsals.
Whilst a church crypt is not everyone’s ideal venue when it comes to cabaret, our choir seems to have embraced it as a second home and it’s only fitting really, given that our very first choir rehearsals took place there, all the way back in 2011.
Choir renditions of ‘Moon River’, ‘Over the rainbow’, ‘Movin on up’, ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ sounded fabulous. And in-between the choir items, we had some fantastic solo performances. The ‘John/Dom/Lucy’ trio excelled themselves, as did Winston and Sheila in the first half. The ‘Monday Quintet’, named just a few minutes before they took to the stage, performed some foot-tapping folk music. Louisa and Gargie sang beautifully moving songs and John and Dominic returned to the stage to end the second half. The choir finished things off with encores of ‘Fix you’ and ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’.
Do come and join us for more crypt goings on next year!
Thursday 10th of October is World Mental Health Day and we’re delighted to be taking part in a concert at Theatre Peckham to help promote knowledge and understanding around mental health issues in our local community.
We’re teaming up with the Mind & Soul choir, who are based at the Maudsley Hospital and we’ll be taking part in a joint workshop on the day. In the evening we’ll be singing together and performing a premier of a song by Aga!
It will be a really special occasion so please do bring along friends and family. Tickets are available to buy online here.
We’re starting back early this term as we have a lot to prepare and look forward to!
With performances at Camberwell Fair and Theatre Peckham as well as ‘Cabaret in the Crypt’ it’s going to be an action-packed term!
Check out the calendar on the tab above or our Facebook page for the very latest details.
We hope that you’ve enjoyed choir this term – we’ve sung at various concerts and at a moving service for the 10th anniversary of the Lakanal House fire. We’ve also had fun at cheese and wine night and we’ve already started work for next term, which promises to be a busy one!
Before we get there, we’re going to be performing on stage at Cameberwell Fair on Saturday 31st of August! Check out the calendar for details about a rehearsal the week before and we hope to see you there on the day.
Wishing you all a great summer in the meantime!
Usually, the choir learns music throughout a term and performs it a few months later at the end of said term. But we like challenges. And what better to stretch ourselves than learn some new music – with lots of new choir members – and perform it all just three rehearsals later?
In the surroundings of the gothic architecture of St Giles’ Church, we kicked off the church summer series of concerts with a sublimely diverse range of music from composers such as Billy Joel and Mozart. Matt and Ashley performed solos and it was a fantastic evening with celebratory pints and pizza at the end.
The choir is on half term on the 28th of May but we are back to normal from Tuesday 4th of June. Needless to say, we’ll still have plenty to work on and you can look forward to playing your part to help Camberwell come alive with the sounds of summer.
